Just a short drive from Virginia Beach, the Grand Illumination Parade is the premier holiday kick-off event for the entire Hampton Roads region. Held on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, the parade features lighted floats, local school bands, and massive inflatable characters. Thousands of spectators line the streets of downtown Norfolk to catch a glimpse of the holiday magic and the arrival of Santa. The event officially marks the start of the 'Winterfest on the Wisconsin' and the local holiday shopping season. It is widely considered one of the best holiday parades in the Southeast.
